Stoltzfus Meat: A Destination Market
It is the type of place that once a person finds it, they will be willing to travel for miles to return to it. Before the meat market, the Stoltzfus family, an Amish family in Lancaster County, PA, would hold an annual “butchering day.” What started as a family tradition soon turned into a business when in 1954, Amos Stoltzfus opened his stand at the New Castle Farmers Market in Delaware.
From here that farm stand grew in popularity to the store in Intercourse we can visit today. Stoltzfus Meats prides itself on paying special attention to everything they do. In turn, this means offering high-quality products to their patrons.

Scrapple is a Pennsylvania delicacy for those who don’t know, and PA Dutch scrapple is a
very special treat. They also have freshly sliced deli meats and prepared sides. And of course, they have their World-famous Sausages. There are also aisles full of prepackaged local finds like Emma’s Gourmet Popcorn, Zook’s Meat Pies, Hammond’s Pretzels, and more. The list just keeps on going.

A Place to Eat: Amos’ Place
Also housed in the Stoltzfus Meats location is Amos’ Place. A small local restaurant that uses the
products within Stoltzfus Meats to make great and affordable meal options. When we arrived we had no intention of stopping to eat. But once we were there it was hard to resist. It was hard to make a selection as there were so many delicious things on the menu to try.
While it was a challenge, we ultimately decided to split the buffalo chicken wrap. Needless to say, it did not disappoint. The chicken was juicy and the taste was great. All the ingredients were nice and fresh. Since we couldn’t try them all, we will be back to try more of the food options. Next on our list is the Chicken Corn Soup!
Our Final Thoughts
Stoltzfus Meats was everything one would hope to find in a localized butcher shop and grocery store. The selection was great and everything we got was great. Stoltzfus Meats is a true destination shop and if you make the trip, you will not be disappointed. We liked it a lot and can’t wait to go back and enjoy more of everything they have to offer.
